In its continuing pursuit of meaningful international partnerships, the University of Antique (UA) recently engaged in exploratory talks with the University of Hertfordshire (UH) in Hatfield, United Kingdom. The discussions centered on possible collaborations in instruction, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs, selected Transnational Education (TNE) models, joint research, and global extension initiatives—beginning with focused engagements between the University of Hertfordshire’s School of Education and UA’s College of Education. This dialogue sets the stage for a shared commitment to advancing teacher education and global learning innovation.

The University of Hertfordshire stands as one of the UK’s most distinguished institutions for education and teacher training. It ranks 1st in the UK for Teacher Training (Daily Mail University Guide, 2025), has achieved 100% student satisfaction in teaching (National Student Survey, 2025), and is placed 5th in the UK for Student Satisfaction in Education and Teaching (NSS, 2025) as well as 12th in the UK for Education (Guardian University Guide, 2025). These recognitions reflect UH’s deep dedication to nurturing educators equipped for a rapidly evolving global learning landscape.

The meeting was graced by UH officials led by Professor Penny Carey (Dean, School of Law and Education), Dr. Barbara Henry (Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise, School of Law and Education), Professor Karen Mpamhanga (Professor of Higher Education and Professional Learning), and Parminder Singh Puar (International Partnerships Manager).

Representing the University of Antique were Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr. (University President), Dr. Jelyn O. Alentajan (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation), and Nicasio A. Pimentel III (Faculty Member, College of Arts and Sciences).

This promising engagement was made possible through the strong partnership and support of the British Council Philippines, led by Country Director Ms. Lotus Postrado, whose sustained collaboration with the University of Antique continues to open new doors for global linkages and academic partnerships. Through the British Council’s invaluable role in connecting Philippine higher education institutions with world-class universities, UA was able to initiate this significant dialogue with the University of Hertfordshire—paving the way for transformative learning collaborations that transcend borders.

The University of Antique’s meeting with the University of Hertfordshire underscores UA’s growing commitment to strengthening international academic relations and enriching its programs through cross-cultural collaboration. Anchored in the vision of producing globally competent yet locally responsive educators, UA remains steadfast in ensuring that Antique’s educational landscape continues to grow through innovation, research, and meaningful international engagement.
