University of Antique stands with the whole country as it launches its 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) today, November 24, 2025.

Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, the campaign not only focuses on raising awareness regarding VAWC but also against all forms of gender-based violence. This annual event starts on November 25 and ends on December 12.

Dr. Catherine C. Viesca, Vice-president for Academic Affairs, on her message stated that the academe stands together in solidarity recognizing that violence especially against women and children is not just a personal tragedy but a painful social reality that demands collective courage, compassion, and commitment.

“We envision a campus where students feel safe to speak, where staff are empowered to defend what is right, and where compassion guides our actions and decisions,” Dr. Viesca further stated highlighting the collective role and responsibility of the Kasubay community in preventing violence as she envisions a future where the cycle of violence is finally broken.

The Office of the Student Regent through the UA Main Campus Student Government (UASG) also launched the Bida Santa, an initiative that invites both students and employees to share gifts, may it be preloved items, toys, school items, or snacks and groceries.

According to Mark Spenzer Merendad, Secretary Designate of the Office of the Student Regent, all proceeds collected through this initiative will go directly to the Pagsapupo Center, a sanctuary for VAWC survivors located at San Jose de Buenavista.

Bida Santa boxes will be placed at the Center Gate and Gate 3 of the Main Campus for those who wish to extend their help for the VAWC victims.
