The University of Antique (UA) College of Arts and Sciences Bachelor of Arts in Communication students, in collaboration with West Visayas State University (WVSU) Master in Development Communication Program, held a seminar with the theme “Redefining Human Communication through Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Challenges, and Creative Innovations” on December 18, 2025. Around 500 students from various colleges in the university attended the seminar, which was held similtaneously at Busalian Hall and Tiripunan Hall.
Three distinguished speakers shared their expertise on AI-related topics. Dr. Yazrina Yahya, Associate Professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, discussed “AI as a Catalyst: Transforming Academic Collaboration through Communication, Design, and Animation,” emphasizing that AI is an essential partner in the new academic landscape, not a replacement. Mr. Juhn Evans Silda, an MDevComm student and former Globe officer, presented “Stop the Fintech Budol: Communicolor Tactics for Fintech Trust Building,” highlighting how students can be digital guardians by identifying misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation. Mr. Moshe Jobel Aranas, Multimedia Officer of the Philippine Rural Development Project, led the session “Creating Smarter: Redefining Visual Storytelling through AI Tools,” emphasizing that while AI may have elevated technological efficiency, it can never replace the creator’s ideas, emotions, and creativity.
The seminar underscored that AI should be perceived as a tool for skill mastery and effective communication, rather than a replacement for human ingenuity.
