Hear the Call of the Dulungan!
๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก, celebrating Antiqueโs provincial birdโthe Dulungan, also known as the Rufous-headed Hornbill (Rhabdotorrhinus waldeni), Visayan Wrinkled Hornbill, or Writhed-billed Hornbill.
Known as the “Farmer of the Forest,” the Dulungan plays a vital role in maintaining healthy forests by dispersing seeds from its beak. It is also recognized for its distinctive, loud, goat-like call. In Panay Island, the Dulungan is found in the forests of the Northwest Panay Peninsula and the Central Panay Mountain Range (CPMR).
Despite its ecological importance, the Dulungan remains classified as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, making its protection more urgent than ever.
The University of Antique joins the Province of Antique, conservation organizations, local government units, and partner agencies in raising awareness and advocating for the protection of Dulungan. Together, let us support conservation initiatives, safeguard its natural habitat, and foster a community where the Dulungan can continue to thrive.
Hear the call. Protect the Dulungan.
