Capt. Luis V. Garfin III, MSMM, Dean of UA’s College of Maritime Studies (CMS), inspired the graduates and completers of the St. Therese-MTC Colleges Tigbauan Site through his Commencement Adress during the college’s 41st Commencement and Recognition Ceremony held at Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City, last August 6, 2025.

On his speech, Capt. Garfin who is also a product of the said institution, emphasized that while their knowledge and skills are their compass and map, the value of integrity, teamwork, discipline, and respect for life at sea will serve as true anchors of these future seafarers, officers, engineers, and maritime professionals.

“Do not be afraid of rough waters. A true mariner is not made in calm seas,” he also stated, encouraging the batch 2025 to embrace the challenges, highlighting that mariners must also constantly grow, adapt, improve, and evolve as the maritime world continues to shift like tides.

Capt. Garfin received a plaque of recognition personally handed by Dr. Ma. Teresa S. Sarabia, President of St. Therese-MTC Colleges, together with other officials of the said institution.
