A shining moment for Albarico, Aros, and Bernesto!

University of Antique (UA) marked a significant milestone in its athletic journey after three UA athletes, John Alger Albarico, Rodela Aros, and Daisy Mae Bernesto, qualified to the finals and beat their personal bests on the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships 2024, an international sporting event, held at Philippine Sports Complex, Pasig City, May 8-12.

Albarico placed 4th in High Jump Men Open Category, Bernesto secured the 7th place in Long Jump Women Open Category, and Aros landed on 7th and 8th places on 400m Low Hurdle Women Open Category and Triple Jump respectively.

According to Floriette Ann Arnaiz, Coach of UA Athletics Team, the participation of the athletes on the said event serves as an opportunity to immerse themselves in high-level competition and gauge their skills against top-tier and seasoned athletes from various national and international teams.

“UA Track and Field’s entry into the championships underscored the commitment to excellence in athletics aiming to hone more athletes from the university,” she further stated. Guiding the students together with Coach Arnaiz is Prof. Adrian Francisco, Director of Sports Unit.

A total of 1255 registered athletes coming from the National Team, FilAm Sports, Sarawak Sukma Malaysia, Sabah Athletics Association, Hong Kong, New Zealand, French Republic, and many other international and national teams, participated in the said events with other athletes aiming to qualify in the Paris Olympics.
