University of Antique (UA) joins maritime educators, training officials, and cadets from maritime education institutions worldwide in the 2026 Global Onboard Training (GOBT) Program, which officially commenced today, September 3, at the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) in Busan, South Korea.

Representing UA in the said international training program are Deck Cadet Ashley Joy Bacugan and Engine Cadet Mark Lester Catulay, who are set to enhance their technical and professional competencies, gain practical insights into the maritime industry, and experience international exposure that complements their academic and shipboard training.

Slated from September 1 to November 30, this year’s GOBT underscores the importance of international cooperation, cultural understanding, professional discipline, and competency-based maritime education in preparing future seafarers for the evolving demands of the global shipping industry.

For three consecutive years, UA has participated in the GOBT under KIMFT’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) initiatives, further strengthening the University’s commitment to providing its maritime students with international learning and professional development opportunities.

UA’s continued participation in the GOBT also reflects its efforts to strengthen international linkages and equip future seafarers with the knowledge, skills, discipline, and global perspective needed to thrive in the international maritime industry.
