University of Antique hosted the gathering of Local Government Leaders and representatives from National Government Agencies for the Accelerated Climate Change and Transformation (ACT) Local Programme in the Province of Antique organized by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) in collaboration with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, July 16-17, 2025.

During her speech, Senator Legarda, a champion of climate change mitigation who led the passage of the Climate Change Act, emphasized the vital role played by the Local Government Units (LGU) in integrating environmental stewardship and in making the province safer and more proactive in addressing environment-related issues.

“We don’t always need to act like we are victims. We use our vulnerability, that’s our power; to influence and to change the way nature treats us,” Senator Legarda further stated emphasizing that the country’s vulnerability can be used as leverage in driving change.

Secretary Robert E.A. Borje, Vice Chairperson and Executive Director of CCC, together with CCC Commissioner Albert Dela Cruz, led the roll out which aims to present the latest climate science, data, and policy developments to support the formulation and updating of Local Climate Change Action Plans (LCCAPs) by the LGUs in Antique.

Also present in the event are Atty. Robin P. Robinos, Provincial Administrator, who represented Governor Paolo Everardo S. Javier, Mayors and officials from the various municipalities in the province, and representatives from NGAs, Aklan State University, and UA.
