“We Thrive, We Survive, We Innovate, and We give hope to others”

Spearheaded by the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, University of Antique joins the National Women’s Month Celebration 2022 with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women”, Monday, March 14.

Engr. Sheryl S. Valera, the GAD Director said on her message that it will be a celebration of women exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes. She said that, “it is a celebration of Filipino women’s power to take the narrative, raise priority issues that matter to them, and call for concrete actions.”

Various activities were prepared by the GAD Office for the month-long celebration: face-to-face contests such as Agenda ng Kababaihan tungo sa kaunlaran, BILAO Painting competition, as well as virtual contests like Juana Asks: Conversation on Women’s Health, Binalaybay, Komposo, JUANADance TikTok Challenge, and Song-writing.

“We know Juanas are resilient. We thrive, we survive, we innovate, and we are even able to give hope to others despite the present circumstances,” she quoted. She further added that with the appropriate mechanisms and the absence of barriers to empowerment, we would see more #WonderJuanas conquering inequities and creating opportunities.

Furthermore, in connection with the Women’s month celebration, the GAD office promoted, “Purple Tuesday” by the faculty and staff to wear purple every Tuesday to show solidarity for women and gender equality. /IAP
